The “Suicide of Lucretia” is a beautiful oil painting on panel (99×76 cm) by Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, known as #Sodoma, executed roughly in 1515-1516 and kept at the Sabauda Gallery in #Turin. This is perhaps the most successful of the versions that the Piedmontese painter dedicated to the subject: a story told by Tito Livio and linked to the myth of the foundation of the #Roman republic, dear to the humanists of the ‘500, and that in the past centuries also represented an example of female moral virtues. The artist has elaborated an image that, while focusing on the dramatic representation of the climax of the culminating moment of history, does not fail to exalt the beauty of the female #nude, managing to combine aesthetic beauty and beautiful morality.
